Bottom Paint

Postby Martie on Wed May 06, 2009 6:09 am

I do the same thing every spring when I haul my old girl after commercial scalloping. I paint her bottom with anti-fouling bottom paint. She's on a trailer and it's a real pain in the ass to paint her bottom.

Question for the group. Do I need to paint every year? I'm thinking of trying something new this year and not painting the bottom.
What do you think? Can I get away with it or should I just go ahead and paint her bottom and get it over with?

It's a rare thing to see me paint an entire bottom.
Most years I "Broker Coat" the hull.
That's the waterline to the chine and just enough under her chin to look right.
When the "bottom" paint starts to look thin every 2-4 years, I'll do the whole thing.
Only growth I get is a few places on the waterline and the transom because there's no water flow while running.

Thanks, cap. I will just paint the waterline this time and see how it goes.
